Pre-compliance

Why test early

Testing is not just about getting a report at the end: placed at the right point in the project, it avoids nasty surprises.

  • Fewer surprises

A pre-compliance test on a prototype reveals weak points early: clearances, emissions, ingress protection, temperature rise.

  • Fix it while it is cheap

Changing a printed circuit board or an enclosure at prototype stage costs far less than after industrialisation.

  • One plan for everything

Safety, EMC, radio, IP, batteries: a single test plan avoids duplicate tests and unnecessary samples.

  • Reports you can use

Clear results, deviations explained, practical recommendations, ready for your technical documentation.

Certification plan

Not sure which tests you need?

The certification plan identifies the legislation and standards that apply to your product, the list of tests, their order, the budget and the schedule, before you spend anything on testing.

Our approach

Your testing in four steps

  1. Discovery call

Your product, your markets and your schedule. 30 minutes.

  2. Test plan

Standards, tests, samples, lead times and budget.

  3. Testing

Pre-compliance tests if useful, then tests on the representative sample.

  4. Report

Results, deviations and recommendations, for your technical file.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about testing

Which tests does my product need?

That depends on the applicable legislation and your product's standards: a connected mains-powered device will often undergo electrical safety, EMC and radio tests, a machine electrical and mechanical verification, an outdoor product an IP test. We set out the exact list in a test plan, or in a complete certification plan if you are starting from scratch.

Is testing mandatory for CE marking?

The manufacturer must demonstrate that its product conforms, and for most electrical products this is done through testing. Under the Low Voltage Directive, for example, test reports are part of the technical documentation. The exact tests depend on the standards applied.

Sources: Directive 2014/35/EU, Annex III

Are your reports recognised?

For the Low Voltage Directive and, in Switzerland, the Swiss Low Voltage Ordinance (NEV), the manufacturer may rely on internal or third-party reports. Some customers or markets do, however, require accredited reports or CB reports: we flag this in the test plan and support you if that is the case.

Sources: Directive 2014/35/EU, Annex III; NEV, SR 734.26, Art. 12

Does the product have to be finished?

No. Pre-compliance tests on a prototype are often the best investment: they show what needs fixing while there is still time. The final tests are then carried out on a sample representative of series production.

How long does it take?

It depends on the number of tests, the availability of samples and any corrections needed. The test plan sets a realistic schedule, and we keep you informed at every step.
