EUROPEAN DIRECTIVES

What is a European directive?

European directives are sets of "laws" which aim to standardize the European market by guaranteeing the free movement of products and their safety.

Which directives apply to machinery and equipment?

This obviously depends on the product in question, but here is a non- exhaustive list  guidelines that may be applicable:

  • EMC Directive 2014/30/EU

  • “Measuring instruments” directive 2014/32/EU

  • “ATEX” Directive 2014/34/EU

  • “Low Voltage” Directive 2014/35/EU

  • Radio Directive 2014/053/EC

  • Machinery Directive 2006/042/EC

  • Pressure Equipment Directive

What does a directive contain?

The directive gives objectives to be achieved in a defined area. The way to achieve them is often not described in the directive itself, which is why standards exist. This offers solutions to meet the requirements of the directives.
